Program summary

This qualification is applicable to general manufacturing, basic assembly lines and jobbing shops. Training and assessment is delivered in the workplace to employees where there is a need to learn and implement improvement processes across the entire organisation.

The qualification is normally offered in conjunction with one of two other qualifications depending on the requirements of each company and its workforce. The two qualifications offered in conjunction with MSM40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing are:

  • MSS40316 Certificate IV in Competitive Systems and Practices, or
  • PMA40116 Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology

Delivery Structure

  • Clusters 1 and 2 - Planning, preparation, review, discovery and research
  • Cluster 3 – Workplace improvement projects launched and implemented
  • Cluster 4 – Implementation and consolidation of workplace improvement projects followed by measurement, review, evaluation and reflection

Who is it for

When offered in conjunction with MSS40316 Certificate IV in Competitive Systems and Practices

All participants should be currently employed in supervisory positions in a manufacturing company or are in development to be upskilled or promoted to a supervisory position.
This program is suitable for manufacturing employees with significant experience of 5 years and over who can lead projects and work unsupervised in their job roles: Typically, this cohort will have general manufacturing experience and hold senior job roles in the following fields:
• Operations
• Research and Development
• Engineering
• Planning
• Laboratory Technology
• Procurement
• Supervisory/leading hand/team leadership roles
This qualification assumes that a learner has current or past work experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a supervisory or similar level of responsibility exists. This qualification is not suitable for direct entry from school.


When offered in conjunction with PMA40116 Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology

All participants should be currently employed in supervisory positions in a manufacturing company, or are in development to be upskilled or promoted to a supervisory position.
This program is designed to be delivered in larger more sophisticated companies that have well developed and systematic induction programs, high-level safety systems and a leadership that understands and supports continuous improvement, safe work practices, environmental responsibilities
This qualification is suitable for employees in advanced technical operations in manufacturing plants working with process plants such as chemicals and injection moulding. Typically, process plant experience will be in job roles such as:
• Plant Managers
• Superintendents
• Workplace Health and Safety
• Maintenance (with a trade qualification)
• Specialist Field Operations staff
This qualification assumes that a learner has current or past work experience where operational or technical skills have already been gained and a supervisory or similar level of responsibility exists. This qualification is not suitable for direct entry from school.

Entry requirements

There are no mandated prerequisite qualification requirements for entry into the MSS40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing. However, National Training Services offers these qualifications as a work based training and assessment program. Participants must be employed in a suitable manufacturing company and need to have the support of their employer to undertake the training and assessment program over a period of approximately 14 months. Suitability is determined by identifying if applicants fit the criteria outlined below.

The MSM40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing qualification is suitable for:

  • Advanced production workers who use a range of equipment and are involved in solving complex problems that require theoretical knowledge, combined with an understanding of operating procedures directly related to producing products; or
  • Advanced production workers who operate across more than one category within process manufacturing or other product conversion processes in manufacturing

This program is not suitable for new entrants to the manufacturing industry who have no previous training or experience in manufacturing.

Pathways

After completion of this qualification a student may choose a higher level qualification in the Manufacturing training package. For example MSM50316 Diploma of Production Management.

This qualification is not offered by National Training Services.

Certification

Upon successful completion of all components of the qualification, a nationally recognised qualification, MSM40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing will be issued.

Duration

The qualification normally takes 14 months to complete.

Completion Requirements - MSM40116 Certificate IV in Process Manufacturing

Twenty-six units have to be completed. The 26 units are comprised of:

  • five core units of competency
  • twenty-one elective units of competency, as specified below:
  • A minimum of 4 of the 21 elective units must be from the Group A elective list for the qualification
  • The balance of elective units, to a maximum of seventeen, may be selected from the Group A, B or C elective lists for the qualification
  • A maximum of 11 elective units can be selected from the Group C elective list for the qualification.
  • Up to 9 elective units may be selected from this Training Package, other endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses, as specified in the qualification packaging rules.
  • Where prerequisite units are identified, they must be counted in the total number of units required for achievement of the qualification.
Time commitment

All requirements for the course are undertaken in the workplace. Time release from usual work duties is negotiated with the employerby the trainer. Training and assessment activities undertaken in the workplace include:

  • Training sessions
  • Project planning, implementation and presentation
  • Skills development
Assessment

Assessment consists of written or verbal assessment of understanding of competitive systems and practices techniques and tools; workplace observation by the trainer; and project presentations reviewed by the trainer and workplace management.

Government Funding

For eligible students training is delivered with Victorian Government funding.

Tuition Fees
